Deep Night Season 12: Shoshana Sachi

Dale unseals one of his favorite comic books from its protective sleeve and unpacks the World’s Strangest Heroes with Los Angeles-based television writer, Shoshana Sachi. Currently at work on the new season of Doom Patrol for HBO Max, Shoshana shares her insights into writing for this unique cast of flawed heroes and reality-bending villains, from the human brain housed in a robot body to an enormous bible-quoting cockroach. The two talk about Shoshana’s upbringing in Malaysia and New Zealand, including her early fascination with folk tales and rituals around death and dying. Dale discovers that Doom Patrol draws on Shoshana’s long-standing interests in horror, combined with a sly, and dark sense of humor. In the Deep Night Spotlight this week, Dale features a track from Bay Area-based musical outfit, Spacemoth. Plus Dale is convinced that objects have a cosmic awareness and that certain things, like old comic books, find us for a reason.

The second season of Doom Patrol is available for viewing on HBO Max or the DC Universe app. New episodes of the show are released every Thursday, but the entire first season is also available. Spacemoth can be found on Spotify or Bandcamp – and we’re sure other places. Well worth checking out and supporting.
