Deep Night Season 12: Mercy Bell

Dale summons a brand new season of the podcast and welcomes singer/songwriter Mercy Bell as his first guest. Based in Nashville, Mercy was in New York recently to talk about her new self-titled album due out next month. With a shared passion for folk music and a love for a certain dance groove of the 1970s, the two talk about the process of making an album along with themes of longing, working through grief, and the importance of facing things head on. Mercy performs two songs on the episode – one from her new album, and one special request from Dale that always offers him comfort in troubled times. This season Dale’s connecting his awkward present to the weird strange past of America and exploring the Deep Night within. After twelve seasons, he just might be on to something.

Mercy Bell’s new album, Mercy Bell is out on all platforms on October 18th. Visit https://mercybellmusic.com/ for more info and purchase information. Mercy Bell was raised in California and New England, and lived in New York City, and Arkansas before finally settling in Nashville. Her sound is deeply influenced by traditional roots music, folk and country western songs of the 1960s-70s, and songwriters of the 1990s. As an openly queer Filipino-American woman who has lived all over the United States and grapples with the hard truths of life, Bell offers a fresh and dynamic approach to folk music.
